Job summary

Commonwealth Senior Living is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the Maintenance Director in maintaining the community’s physical plant. The role covers electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, refrigeration, and related tasks while ensuring compliance with life-safety codes and high safety standards.

The ideal candidate has at least three years of maintenance experience, reads and writes English proficiently, and holds a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years maintenance experience.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of maintenance equipment and tools.
• Knowledge of building, electrical, refrigeration, and fire safety codes.
• Skills in all phases of building and equipment maintenance, cleanliness and repairs.
• Experience with senior/geriatric populations is a plus.
• Customer service oriented attitude when dealing with staff, residents, management and families.
• Willingness to be on call during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine maintenance on grounds and facilities as needed.
• Repairs and maintains plumbing, electrical, carpentry and mechanical systems as directed.
• Maintains safe operating and fire prevention practices.
• Keeps facilities in good repair and orderly condition.
• Replaces burned out lights and performs high-elevation housekeeping tasks.
• Maintains HVAC systems and ensures proper operation.
• Ensures supplies are replenished in work areas.
• Repairs emergency breakdowns promptly.
• Cooperates with staff to maintain resident safety.
• Prepares vacant rooms to rent-ready condition within 72 hours of move-out.
• Reports wear and tear or cleaning needs to the Executive Director.
• Inspects and tests fire alarm and emergency systems; maintains records.
• Initiates efficiency programs to reduce waste and expenses.
• Pre-starts systems before seasonal changes and checks for issues.
• Maintains drain and utility rooms and logs corrective actions.
