Job summary

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Facility Services Department is seeking a general maintenance technician to keep the campus, including dorms, classrooms, labs, and office buildings, safe, operational, and welcoming. We are looking for a reliable, skilled technician capable of handling a wide array of trade tasks, from preventative maintenance to hands‑on repairs.

Qualified candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED and 1–3 years of general maintenance experience; a valid driver’s license is

High School Diploma or GED required.
1–3 years general maintenance experience preferred.
Basic computer skills for digital record‑keeping.
Valid Driver’s License required; trade licenses a plus.

Responsibilities

Inspect, maintain, and repair building systems (heating, plumbing, electrical, HVAC) to safety standards.
Perform carpentry, plumbing fixture installations, and basic flooring/renovations.
Conduct fire/alarm checks and other safety/workplace hazards per OSHA/MSDS guidelines.
Assist with campus events, classroom setup, and general grounds upkeep.
Operate equipment and transport tools/materials between sites; participate in 24/7 on‑call rotation.
