Position Summary

Indiana University Bloomington ( IUB ) invites applications for multiple tenured faculty positions at the associate or full professor rank in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, Department of Intelligent Systems Design, in the field of microelectronics, circuits, and system design. We seek candidates who can teach and lead research in one or more of the following areas: analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits; digital VLSI and AI hardware systems; advanced packaging and heterogeneous integration; and power electronics and energy-integrated microsystems. We encourage applications from scholars who apply interdisciplinary perspectives across a variety of these domains and complement existing strengths within the department. We particularly welcome candidates whose work leverages innovative computational techniques and connects microelectronic circuits and systems with computing, AI, sensing, security, radiation effects, healthcare, or other emerging application domains. These 10‑month appointments would ideally start August 1, 2027, although an earlier or later start date is negotiable. Responsibilities

Tenured/tenure-track faculty at Indiana University Bloomington are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of their department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cutting‑edge research both as a corresponding principal investigator and a collaborating investigator; teaching and mentoring a diverse population of students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level as designated by the department chairperson; and actively providing service within the department, school and university alongside active engagement with the profession and/or the community. Candidates with special interest in the following areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Analog and Mixed‑Signal Integrated Circuits Key research areas: Low‑power analog design; sensor interfaces; data converters (ADC / DAC); RF/mixed‑signal integration; power management IC blocks. Teaching contributions: core electronics sequence; Analog IC Design; sensor/measurement laboratory modules; mixed‑signal design projects.
  • Digital VLSI and AI Hardware Systems Key research areas: ASIC / FPGA design flows; AI/edge accelerators; hardware–software co‑design; modern SoC architectures; verification and architecture exploration. Teaching contributions: VLSI/Digital VLSI; hardware acceleration; capstone integration; design verification and prototyping experiences.
  • Advanced Packaging and Heterogeneous Integration Key research areas: Chiplets; 2.5D/3D integration; thermal/reliability co‑design; advanced interconnects; packaging‑aware design methodologies. Teaching contributions: Heterogeneous Integration & Advanced Packaging; packaging/reliability labs; cross‑layer design projects linking devices to systems.
  • Power Electronics and Energy‑Integrated Microsystems Key research areas: Power ICs; wide‑bandgap (GaN/SiC) integration; efficient power delivery; electrified transportation; energy‑aware computing platforms. Teaching contributions: Power Electronics; power conversion labs; energy‑constrained system design projects with hardware measurement.

These positions are located on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington ( IUB ) in Bloomington, Indiana, and successful candidates are expected to work on the IUB campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations upon performance in three areas including research, teaching, and service. All individuals hired through this initiative are expected to excel in research and provide strong performance in teaching and service.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess a PhD in engineering (or a related field) and be committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Candidates for appointment with tenure positions must demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for an appointment with tenure, including extramurally funded research as a corresponding principal investigator, current funding or strong potential to secure external funding, established record of publications and scholarly work, and experience leading sizeable research initiatives.
