Job summary

Fairfax County Government's Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Planner II for the Active Transportation, Capital Projects, and Traffic Engineering Division. This role supports development, design, review and management of active transportation projects for pedestrians, bicyclists, bikeshare users, scooter riders, transit riders, and people with disabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field.
• Two years of professional experience in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field.
• Valid driver’s license.
• The appointee will be required to complete a driving record check.

Responsibilities

• Develop scoping documents and review designs for multimodal transportation projects.
• Prepare technical reports, conceptual design sketches, maps, tables/databases, and presentation materials.
• Support community outreach and development of educational materials for active transportation.
• Attend community meetings to present and discuss projects.
• Conduct field visits to evaluate existing transportation conditions.
• Review, summarize, and investigate pedestrian and bicycle research, data, and regulatory matters.
• Develop and review RFPs, scopes of work, budgets, and schedules, and manage consultant contracts.
• Research funding opportunities for bicycle and pedestrian transportation projects through local, state, and federal grants.
