Job summary

Fairfax County Government seeks a Transportation Planner II to support the Active Transportation, Capital Projects, and Traffic Engineering Division. The role focuses on residential traffic programs, data analysis, and coordinating with county agencies.

The ideal candidate will have a civil engineering or planning background, GIS experience, and strong communication skills for public and official presentations. Evening and weekend meetings may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field, plus two years of professional experience.
• Two years of professional experience in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field.
• Experience with GIS tools and traffic engineering concepts is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates residential traffic issues for program eligibility and conducts traffic engineering studies.
• Manages residential traffic projects, collects data, and presents results to the Board of Supervisors' staff.
• Uses Excel and ArcGIS to prepare and maintain project maps and ballot materials.
• Prepares for and participates in public hearings and community meetings.
