Descript is looking for a Senior Research Scientist to advance multimodal understanding for editoric features. You will design vision-language systems, build and evaluate datasets, and train models from scratch or fine-tune foundation models for production use.

The role emphasizes owning research directions, mentoring, and potential leadership responsibilities, with a mix of remote and hybrid work options in a fast-growing AI editing company.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to design and implement deep learning algorithms, demonstrated by publications, open-source work, or models you've shipped.
• Strong programming skills and deep fluency in PyTorch.
• A track record of generating new ideas in machine learning and evaluating many experiments quickly.

Responsibilities

• Build vision-language systems for editoric features that reason over visual and audio content.
• Design benchmarks and evals to measure editorial quality and balance against cost and latency.
• Create datasets, including synthetic data generation where real data is scarce.
• Train models from scratch or fine-tune foundation models to achieve capabilities needed.
• Ship models from prototype to production with engineering teams.
• Identify next research directions that could become Descript features.
