About the Role:

McClatchy Media is redefining the way visual content drives digital storytelling. As a Multimedia Editor, you'll be at the forefront of our digital media operations, managing high-stakes image research, copyright clearance, and visual strategy for our online platforms. This is not a passive research role; it’s a fast-paced, decision-heavy position that requires expertise in digital rights management, creative problem-solving, and a deep understanding of the evolving media landscape.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Curate and distribute the most impactful imagery from both subscription and non-subscription sources, ensuring maximum editorial and viral potential.
  2. Secure permissions and negotiate usage rights for breaking news images, working against tight deadlines to clear assets for rapid publication.
  3. Assess copyright risks of social media assets, ensuring legal compliance without sacrificing speed or impact.
  4. Lead complex photo research for non-subscription sources, ensuring editorial teams have access to high-value, rights-cleared imagery.
  5. Strategically negotiate exclusive paparazzi purchases, balancing budget considerations with the demand for high-impact, newsworthy visuals.
  6. Seamlessly adapt print content for digital, securing necessary rights and optimizing images for an online audience.
  7. Execute advanced Photoshop edits for high-profile digital posts, ensuring every image meets the highest visual standards.
  8. Provide technical expertise and support to writers and editors, as the responsibility for routine photo research shifts to their domain.
  9. Stay ahead of AI-driven tools and innovations in photo editing, content generation, and digital rights management, leveraging technology to enhance workflows and visual storytelling.
What You Bring to the Table:
  1. An expert-level understanding of digital media rights and copyright clearance, with a proactive approach to risk assessment.
  2. A strategic, editorial mindset; you don’t just find images, you shape visual narratives that drive engagement.
  3. Advanced Photoshop skills, with the ability to enhance and manipulate images for high-quality online presentation.
  4. A keen eye for viral potential and a deep knowledge of pop culture, celebrity news, and digital storytelling trends.
  5. The ability to multitask and work at the speed of breaking news, handling multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
  6. A proven track record of managing exclusive paparazzi negotiations and sourcing high-value, hard-to-find content.
  7. A curiosity for AI-driven media technologies, with a willingness to explore how AI can optimize image sourcing, editing, and verification processes.
