Job summary

University of Virginia Library seeks a Metadata Systems Librarian for Non-Latin Script Resources to develop algorithmic metadata workflows for Arabic, Indic, CJK, and other scripts. You will collaborate with IT to transliterate, translate, and normalize bibliographic titles and ensure standards alignment (MARC21, RDA, authority control).

This role bridges metadata librarianship with technical development, supporting linked data practices and scalable discovery across multilingual resources.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program or relevant graduate degree; substitution allowed per guidelines.
• 4–9 years of post‑degree/professional experience for Librarian II.
• 9+ years for Librarian III.
• Experience with non-Latin script metadata, transliteration/romanization, and multilingual discovery.

Responsibilities

• Design and support algorithmic workflows for non-Latin script metadata.
• Develop, implement, and maintain transliteration and normalization processes.
• Ensure metadata quality and authority control across MARC21 and nonMARC schemas.
• Contribute to documentation, standards, and crosswalking efforts.
• Collaborate with Cataloging and IT to implement analytics and reproducible workflows.
