Job summary

The UVA Library seeks a Metadata Systems Librarian for Non-Latin Script Resources to develop and advance computational metadata for non-Latin scripts including Arabic, Indic, and CJK.

This exempt, hybrid role collaborates with Library IT to design transliteration, translation, and normalization workflows, applying MARC21, RDA, and authority control, with an eye toward linked data and semantic metadata practices.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program or relevant graduate degree.
• Experience with non‑Latin script metadata, transliteration, and multilingual discovery.
• Familiarity with MARC21, RDA, authority control, and linked data concepts.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain metadata workflows for non‑Latin script resources including transliteration, translation, normalization, and romanization.
• Collaborate with Library IT to design algorithmic workflows and semi-automated tools for metadata enhancement.
• Apply standards (MARC21, RDA, authority control) to computational workflows and contribute to documentation.
• Support crosswalks, mapping, and normalization of metadata across systems.
• Engage in professional development and pilot AI-assisted metadata initiatives.
