Job summary

Tennessee Oncology in Nashville seeks a Medical Assistant Float to provide high-quality clinical and administrative support across several surgical specialties with travel between clinic locations as needed.

The role ensures efficient patient flow, accurate documentation in the EMR, and collaboration with physicians and nurses to deliver excellent patient care in diverse clinical environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program and/or CMA/RMA/CCMA preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical setting; multi-specialty experience preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Proficiency in EMR systems and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares exam rooms and patients for visits across multiple specialties.
• Records patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit accurately in the EMR.
• Provides clinical support during in-office procedures, including wound care, suture/staple removal, dressing changes, injections.
• Coordinates patient care including scheduling follow-up appointments, diagnostic tests, and referrals.
• Provides patient education and instructions tailored to each specialty’s needs.
• Maintains inventory of medical supplies and ensures proper sterilization and cleanliness of equipment and exam rooms.
• Performs administrative duties such as answering phones, managing messages, and processing paperwork related to patient care.
• Travels to various clinic locations to provide coverage as assigned, sometimes on short notice.
• Adapts quickly to different workflows and provider preferences across specialties, while consistently utilizing the organization’s standardized EMR system.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control standards.
• Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to support coordinated and efficient patient care.
• Assists in onboarding and training new staff when needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
