Job summary

ELMHS in Jackson, LA is seeking a skilled Maintenance Assistant to keep hospital grounds and facilities in good condition. You will operate lawn and landscape equipment and perform basic repairs across plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and painting.

Responsibilities include trimming, mowing, minor repairs, and maintaining equipment. A valid driver’s license is required. Appointment type is WAE, not to exceed 1,245 hours in a year, with no civil service test score required.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience or training in building trades, maintenance, or grounds maintenance.
• Two-year vocational program in general building construction or construction technology.
• Twelve semester hours in construction management/engineering or related courses.

Responsibilities

• Upkeep and appearance of hospital grounds.
• Operate power and handheld equipment (weed eaters, mowers, chainsaws, edgers, blowers).
• Perform basic repairs in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC/refrigeration, and painting.
• Maintain equipment and drive/license requirement.
• Make repairs in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and painting as listed.

Education

Two-year vocational program in general building construction

Twelve semester hours in construction technology/engineering

Two years of experience in building trades/maintenance
