Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical fields such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing (3+ years).

Job Summary

Chief Engineer will provide strategic leadership, planning, organization, and direction for multiple sub‑departments—Engineering, Grounds, Facilities, Inventory, and occasionally Housekeeping/Common Area—within a resort. The role focuses on maintaining high quality standards, financial stability, safety compliance, and efficient operations while supporting the resort’s overall mission.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage the engineering department, capital projects, and vendor operations.
  • Maintain overall engineering operations, perform daily audits and inspections, and ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Advise the Resort Manager on facilities, building maintenance, and reserve projects.
  • Implement policies to adhere to hazardous materials regulations, including MSDS management and GHS compliance.
  • Collaborate with the safety committee to conduct safety training and inspections.
  • Identify process improvements and best practices, ensuring all compliance standards are met.
  • Execute strategic goals and participate in assigned committees and team projects (35% of time).
  • Build a positive work environment, motivate staff, and drive recruitment, coaching, development, and succession planning (35% of time).
  • Manage financial aspects: forecast and manage the engineering budget, generate monthly P&L reports, and ensure audit compliance (15% of time).
  • Maintain strong relationships with HOA: present bids, understand governing statutes, and negotiate contracts (5% of time).
  • Lead change initiatives, identify process improvements, and collaborate with corporate resources (5% of time).
  • Perform additional duties as needed (5% of time).
Travel Requirements

Must be able to travel 1‑2 days for corporate training, seminars, and certification training (e.g., HVAC, pool maintenance). Travel time may range from 5% to 30% of the role.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent technical/trade school experience.
  • Minimum five years of related experience; five years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Experience in mechanical fields such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing (3+ years).
  • Budgeting and P&L management experience.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency in safety practices for power tools and shop tools.
  • Knowledge of elevators, pool pumps, filtration systems, ADA, fire codes, and emergency response.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair routine mechanical and electrical malfunctions.
  • Strong vendor and contractor negotiation skills.
  • Organizational and time‑management skills; ability to prioritize and develop realistic action plans.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and key system tools (Property, Power Tool, pumps).
  • Analytical ability to interpret data and understand its impact on operations.
