Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist for the blood bank, serving MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. The role runs 5am to 1:30pm with weekend rotation, across multiple sites, ensuring accurate testing and reporting to support patient care.

You will handle routine and special procedures, maintain equipment and inventories, participate in quality control, and train staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science required.
• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related science required.
• Equivalent education totaling 60 semester hours with specified coursework.
• Laboratory training must include clinical training or three months in each specialty.
• ASCP MLS certification or equivalent is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and special laboratory procedures in the blood bank.
• Evaluate and report results for patient diagnosis and treatment.
• Maintain inventory and neat, orderly work area.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment; troubleshoot and document data.
• Participate in quality control, corrective actions, and surveys.
• Prepare reagents and materials; process specimens with proper identification.
• Train new employees and students; participate in quality improvement teams.
• Set up new procedures and determine normal ranges; assist pathologists.
