Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a School Nurse to oversee the emotional, mental, physical, and social health of students across the district. The nurse may be assigned to multiple schools, providing general health office support or 1:1 care for students with higher health needs.

The role requires a BSN (or substantial RN experience with temporary license), Colorado RN license or multi-state license, and CPR certification. Previous school nursing experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• BSN degree required or three+ years RN experience with temporary license and enrollment in BSN program during probation.
• Current Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License - School Nurse endorsement (or eligibility).
• Colorado RN license or MultiState license valid in Colorado
• BLS/CPR certification with renewal as needed
• Experience in school nursing preferred
• Residency in Colorado and ability to travel across DPS sites

Responsibilities

• Provides well student care, health care, first aid, immunizations, and assistance to students at assigned school.
• Prioritizes health services needs based on assignment timing.
• Removes or reduces health-related barriers to learning.
• Travels to multiple school sites as needed.
• Applies pediatric nursing skills in a school setting with clinical judgement.
• Performs vision, hearing, height/weight screenings and referrals.
• Creates health care plans and supports IEP/504 teams.
• Maintains student health records in the district system.
• Supports 1:1 nursing for higher-need students when required.
• Trains and supervises health paraprofessionals and staff.
• May supervise health staff and participate in extra-duty activities per bargaining agreement.
• Assists CNA/LPN in assigned locations and performs other duties as assigned
