Job summary

Javon Bea Hospital—Riverside in Rockford, IL, seeks an MRI Technologist to perform advanced MRI imaging, administer contrast, and ensure patient safety and comfort. You will operate MRI systems, coordinate with radiologists, and participate in education for patients and staff.

The role requires ARRT radiography and CT certification, 2–4 years of technologist experience, and state licensure as applicable. Night/weekend shifts and a sign-on bonus are offered.

OVERVIEW

Perform advanced MRI imaging procedures to produce high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and exceptional care. This role operates specialized MRI equipment, administers contrast media, performs complex MRI studies, and applies MRI safety standards to support accurate diagnosis and treatment. The position also serves as a clinical resource within the department, assists with advanced imaging projects and procedures, provides education to patients and team members, and collaborates with radiologists and healthcare providers to deliver outstanding patient care. Schedule: Weekend Nights Shift: Friday-Sunday, 9pm-9am; holiday and call rotation Location: Javon Bea Hospital—Riverside, Rockford, IL Pay Range: $35.85 - $53.77 This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains active status in the modalities in which they practice. Assists the department coordinator by providing clinical leadership, completes projects, advanced level clinical duties and regular assignments as requested. Is competent in all exams performed within the assigned modalities. Corroborates patient clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist. Prepares the patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices, and accessories to successfully perform procedures. Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomical area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort; immobilizes patient as necessary. Practices aseptic technique as necessary, Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed; starts and maintains intravenous access. Initiates basic life support action when necessary. Provides patient education. Provides input for supply and equipment decisions, maintains control of inventory and supplies for assigned area. Provides practical instruction for students and partners. Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers. Apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients. Maintains knowledge of current MRI safety practices and utilizes such as part of daily practice. Assumes responsibility for persons entering Zones I-IV. Applies principles and policies of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others. Reviews patients’ clinical history ensuring that appropriate scan is ordered and labs are within range- reviewing with radiologist and/or provider as necessary. Selects and operates the magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results.

  • Reports and documents MRI safety incidents/ adverse events per protocol.
  • Operates MRI scanner, associated equipment, and power injector to produce cross section images of patient anatomy for diagnostic purposes Documents all information pertinent to MRI procedure in electronic medical record to include medication reconciliation.
  • Verifies consent/screening form for all entering Zone IV.
  • Ability to perform independent high-level MRI studies such as but not limited to; all cardiac studies, run offs, conditional device protocols, and MRI procedural studies

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program Two to four years of experience as a technologist as a Radiographer is required. Experience in a hospital environment preferred
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

ARRT registered in Radiography and CT required with the ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT credential required Two to Four Years experience in CT and one year in MRI Hospital experience preferred IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin BLS/CPR required within 90 days of hire

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Passing the Driver’s License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring). Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check. Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and risk of radiation.
