Job summary

Monarch Quantum in San Diego, California, seeks a Multi‑Disciplinary Engineer 4 (Electro‑Optics‑Lasers) to lead hands‑on hardware development for core laser capabilities. You will operate across multiple engineering disciplines, from electronics to optics, tackling challenging technical problems in a fast‑moving startup setting.

The ideal candidate drives systems from ground up with practical skills in multiple areas and is comfortable with ambiguity.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of relevant experience, startup/tech environment preferred.
• Strong analytical skills with hands‑on laser/beam modulation experience.
• Ability to analyze, fabricate, and test designs with real‑world validation.
• Experience with high‑power laser safety is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and scale core hardware capabilities for electro‑optics lasers.
• Design, simulate, test and validate laser systems and subsystems.
• Collaborate across disciplines to solve complex engineering challenges in a startup setting.

Requirements

• This position requires access to export-controlled information. Employment is contingent upon the applicant being a U.S. person as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)

Experience

• Master's degree in engineering or a related field
• 8+ years of relevant experience—including applicable higher‑education work—preferably within a startup or technology‑driven environment
• Strong analytical capabilities paired with hands‑on experience in generating and controlling high‑precision, high‑power lasers and beam modulation
• Proven ability to analyze, fabricate, and test designs to validate performance through real‑world experimentation
• Candidates with extensive high‑power laser safety experience are strongly preferred

Benefits

The expected annual salary range for this position is $200,000-$225,000.
