Job summary

Monarch Quantum in San Diego is seeking a Multi-Disciplinary Engineer 3 (Electro-Optics-Lasers) to build core hardware capabilities from the ground up. The role spans electronic hardware, optics, firmware, and laser control, requiring hands-on problem solving in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with high-precision, high-power lasers and beam modulation.
• Ability to analyze, fabricate, and test designs to validate performance via real-world testing.
• Strong high-power laser safety experience preferred.

As we scale, you’ll play a foundational role in building core hardware capabilities from the ground up. This hands‑on position is ideal for a self‑starter who thrives in a fluid startup environment and enjoys working across multiple engineering disciplines to solve challenging technical problems. Individuals should have strong hands‑on practical skills in multiple fields listed below with exceptional skills in at least one of the fields:

• This position requires access to export-controlled information. Employment is contingent upon the applicant being a U.S. person as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3).

Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of relevant experience—including applicable higher‑education work—preferably within a startup or technology‑driven environment.
• Strong analytical capabilities paired with hands‑on experience in generating and controlling high‑precision, high‑power lasers and beam modulation.
• Proven ability to analyze, fabricate, and test designs to validate performance through real‑world experimentation.
• Candidates with extensive high‑power laser safety experience are strongly preferred.

The expected annual salary range for this position is $150,000-$175,000.
