Job summary

Xanterra Travel Collection has an opening for a Mule Packer Supervisor at Grand Canyon South Rim. You will supervise mule packing operations and coordinate deliveries to Phantom Ranch, ensuring safe, efficient packing and compliance with park operations.

The role offers full-time, year-round work with a schedule around 40 hours per week; housing options are available and pay is $22.65 per hour. Expect outdoor work, potential weekend shifts, and opportunities for growth within the lodge system.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year supervisory experience.
• Two years mule/horse packing experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with two-way radio communications.
• Ability to identify and correct health and safety issues with mules.
• Have own saddle and tack.
• Ability to handle extremes in weather and outdoor conditions.
• Ability to supervise staff and provide guidance outside a traditional work setting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee preparation and delivery of groceries, duffels and service items from Rim to Phantom Ranch and other inner-canyon locations.
• Assist with selecting new packers.
• Provide training and evaluation of packing staff and stock used.
• Work with Livery Management on staff performance reviews.
• Maintain condition of pack barn and equipment; oversee repairs and replacement.
