Position Summary

The Yard Dog / Terminal Tractor Operator is responsible for safely operating a yard mule (terminal tractor) to move trailers, containers, and equipment throughout the facility. This position ensures efficient yard operations by transporting materials, staging trailers, conducting inspections, and maintaining compliance with company safety policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

• Safely operate a yard mule, yard dog, or terminal tractor in an industrial facility or yard environment.


• Move, stage, spot, and reposition trailers as directed by operations personnel.


• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment and report defects or maintenance concerns.


• Verify trailer numbers, seals, and locations to ensure accuracy.


• Load and unload cargo as required.


• Maintain accurate records and logs of trailer movements, inspections, and daily activities.


• Ensure compliance with company policies, site requirements, and applicable safety regulations.


• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and other operators regarding trailer movements and yard conditions.


• Keep equipment clean and ensure required safety equipment is present and operational.


• Assist with general yard housekeeping and other duties assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year experience operating a terminal tractor, yard mule, yard dog, commercial vehicle, or related heavy equipment.


• Previous Industrial, Manufacturing, Warehouse, Distribution, Or Logistics Experience Preferred.


• Terminal Tractor Certification preferred.


• Ability to safely operate equipment in a fast-paced environment.


• Strong understanding of safety procedures and hazard awareness.


• Ability to workdays, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
