Job summary

Qualifications

Job Description

SUMMARY: Responsible for working collaboratively with administrative staff in schools, faculty, and other district staff to enhance and encourage the implementation of a Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for academics and behavior, contribute to the development and maintenance of positive school culture, engaging learning environment, and any additional responsibilities as identified by the principal.

Responsibilities
  • Manages student supervision and enforces school behavioral expectations
  • Responds to and investigates potential violations of the Student Code of Conduct as identified by the building administration
  • Conducts home visits to positively impact student attendance and academic achievement toward proficiency
  • Communicates with and provides support to parents and guardians regarding student behavior and academic achievement
  • Supports the implementation of school‑wide reform strategies and action steps aligned to School Improvement Plan Goals (e.g., Attendance Goals, Behavior Goals, School Culture, and Climate Goals, Academic Goals)
  • Collaborates with the Guidance Department to ensure all students, including sub‑groups (e.g., Limited English Proficient students), are appropriately welcomed/inducted as they transition to a new school
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop age‑appropriate behavior management plans that reinforce research‑based effective classroom management strategies
  • Explains School and District policies and procedures to students and parents
  • Assists teachers with effective classroom management strategies (e.g., modeling implementation for faculty, check‑in‑check‑out, behavior planning)
  • Assists in developing, developing, and implementing individual student behavior plans. Serves as a resource to staff in supporting at‑risk students both behaviorally and academically
  • Assists in the development of school‑wide programs to promote positive student behaviors and interventions that are meaningful to target populations
  • Assigns appropriate consequences for students engaging in inappropriate behavior, including, but not limited to, detention and in‑school suspension but not out‑of‑school suspension
  • Documents in the appropriate platform (e.g., Skyward) the evidence and next steps of behavioral offenses and records consequences through Behavior Incident Reports
  • Communicates with building staff regarding attendance trend concerns (e.g., by grade level) and communicates with faculty, parents, and administrators about behavior attendance for chronically underperforming students
  • Assists in the writing of grants related to student management opportunities. Collaborates with Administration/Guidance/Social Worker and community stakeholders to develop appropriate drug and alcohol interventions and intervention strategies. Provides supervision at extracurricular and athletic events as needed during the workday. Develops positive recognition programs to reinforce a positive school climate that is student‑focused and encourages student participation.
  • Provides school climate and discipline data to the Administrative Leadership Team on an ongoing basis. Participates when requested in CORE team MTSS meetings with documentation for either RTH‑A or RTI‑B (Response to intervention Academics/Behavior)
  • Supervises in‑school suspension program; monitors out‑of‑school suspensions

Licenses / Certificates
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Rhode Island driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the District
  • A valid Rhode Island teaching certificate in a field of secondary education
  • Experience at the secondary school level
Compensation / Benefits
  • This position is within the Pawtucket Teachers' Alliance
  • 184 school calendar days, 8‑hour workday, which includes a one‑hour lunch, as part of the 8‑hour day, to be taken at a mutually agreed upon time
