Role Description:

This is a full-time on-site role for an MTA Safety Coordinator at Nova Safety Associates in Brooklyn, NY. The individual shall be responsible for overseeing the safety of employees, subcontractors, and the general public; enforcing corporate and project-specific safety and health programs as well as federal, state, and local safety standards; identifying known/potential exposures and recommending corrective actions; reporting project-specific safety performance and future plans; working closely with field supervision to plan safety aspects of the project construction; develop project-specific safe work plans; and coordinate third party safety reviews, including OSHA, among other activities. In addition, the Safety Coordinator will be responsible to:

• Report to the Safety Manager for daily work activities, perform and document daily safety inspections of the work site.
• Perform safety checks to ensure worker compliance and protection with project specific EHASP.
• Document any safety findings and corrective actions taken.
• Complete Daily Safety Reports.
• Document near misses or incidents. Conduct accident and incident investigations
• Communicate with all designated competent persons before, during, and after completion of their work shifts.
• Conduct weekly “Toolbox Talk” safety meetings.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum two (2) years of safety or safety-related experience.
• Undergraduate degree in Safety and Health, Civil Engineering or related construction discipline a plus.
• Valid and current NYCT Track Safety Training
• Minimum of ninety (90) days prior ROW experience including flagging and diversions of service
• NYSDOL Asbestos License Class D. Possess and maintain a current New York State Department of Labor Asbestos Inspectors License.
• Possess and maintain a current C-3/C-5 Supervisor / Competent Person Training for De-leading of Industrial Structures Certificate.
• 40-hr Hazardous Waste Worker Training and up-to-date refreshers and supervisory training.
• Successful completion of the 40-hour NYC-Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager Course.
• Successful completion of the 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety & Health (29 CFR 1926) Course.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
• Active member of American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).
• Familiarity with the type of work being performed.
• Competent to instruct on-site personnel.
• Able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
