U.S. Marine Management Position Description

Purpose/Summary:
The MSV Naval Architect is responsible for developing alteration, modification, conversion, and technical solutions and upgrades for the MSV program.
The work location is in the corporate office in Norfolk, Virginia. The MSV Naval Architect performs periodic travel to ships or other locations as required. Occasionally, such as in special projects, the MSV Naval Architect may have other company personnel reporting into him or her in the form of a cross-functional team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop solutions for changes, alterations, modifications, upgrades, and conversions pertaining to the MSV program.
- Actively develop work specifications, drawings, and technical information to enable contractors to quote, and regulatory agencies to review requested modifications.
- Complete engineering, mechanical, naval architecture engineering, finite element analysis, loading conditions, etc., required to support the MSV program.
- Complete 2D and 3D CAD production engineering drawings and one-line design drawings for MSV program ship system alterations, modifications, upgrades, and conversions including, but not limited to, structural, pipe, electrical, ventilation, etc.
- Complete photo-realistic renderings of MSV program ships, systems, and components, as required.
- Be an advocate for shipboard safety, the company safety culture, and actively support timely attention to any safety issue.
- Act on continuous improvement initiatives with timely attention and completion in a cost-efficient manner.
- Perform other position-related duties as specified by management.
- Support company commitment to safety and other standards and certifications.
- Responsible for meeting requirements and deadlines in shipyard specifications, vendor selection, and optimal utilization of ship's force during shipyard periods.
- Support the Program Manager and MSV General Manager as required.
Position Specifications:
Education and Experience:
- B.S. in Naval Architecture required (B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in addition to Naval Architecture preferred).
- Advanced degrees in business, logistics, or equivalent discipline are preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of project management and vessel design experience required.
- Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) preferred.
- Must be eligible for a secret security clearance.
- Proficiency with software: MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Solidworks, Rhinoceros & ORCA 3D, NEiNastran & FEMAP, Pipe-Flo, Multiframe 4D, Maxsurf Pro, HydroMax Pro, NavCad.
- Random drug testing required.
Technical Skills and Competencies:
- Computer literacy in PC and Marine Management Software systems (Nautical Systems experience preferred).
- Excellent interpersonal skills for daily business interactions.
- Experience in electronics installation and commissioning, including integrated bridge systems and networking.
- Effective communication skills in various forums, both internal and external.
- Superior writing and documentation skills.

Travel Requirements:
Extensive travel (including foreign travel and travel by car, boat, ship, and airplane) is required for shipyard maintenance, vessel visits, quality assurance, and managing vessel and crew issues, often on short notice.
