Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Plainville, MA site is seeking a Manufacturing Sciences Scientist II, Downstream. In this role you will support process development, technology transfer, and continuous improvement to ensure robust manufacturing of viral vector products and related therapies.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, apply cGMP principles, manage documentation, and drive quality improvements while maintaining compliance and safety in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree preferred, and Bachelor's Degree required.
• Fields of study include Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or related scientific field.
• Bachelor's degree with 2 years GMP manufacturing or related experience, or advanced degree with no experience required.

Location/Division Specific Information

Reporting to the Plainville, MA site and supporting the Viral Vector Services (VVS), a division of Thermo Fisher Scientific. At VVS, we deliver from process development through commercial supply, offering the expertise and resources vital to help clients deliver innovative gene therapies. We are placed at the forefront of our leading and groundbreaking Cell and Gene Therapy business, enabling clients to cure genetic, rare, and otherwise untreatable diseases.

Join our team as a Manufacturing Sciences Scientist II, where you'll contribute to ensuring consistent production of therapeutic and diagnostic products. As part of our Manufacturing Sciences team, you'll work at the intersection of research and production, supporting process optimization, technology transfer, and continuous improvement initiatives.

1st Shift and May require occasional weekend/off-hours support

Keys to Success:

Education

• Advanced Degree preferred, and Bachelor's Degree required.

• Preferred Fields of Study: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or related scientific field.

Experience

• Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience in GMP manufacturing, process development, or related technical role, or no experience required with an advanced degree.

• Experience with process validation, technology transfer, and scale-up activities preferred.

• Experience with risk assessment and root cause analysis

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Strong understanding of cGMP requirements, regulatory compliance, and quality systems

• Expertise in analytical techniques and laboratory instrumentation (HPLC, spectroscopy, etc.)

• Proficiency in aseptic techniques and cleanroom operations.

• Strong project management and documentation skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment

• Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant manufacturing/quality systems

• Ability to train and support team members

• Must be able to wear required PPE and work in controlled environments

• Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 35 lbs and stand for extended periods

• Additional language skills beneficial.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $66,000.00-$99,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
