Job summary

Mn State Academies in Minnesota seeks MSAB Residential Educators- Intermittent to support dormitory students and assist with instruction for blind/visually impaired learners under supervision.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provides substitute dormitory instruction or student management aide support at MSAB.
• Under general supervision, contributes to the design and delivery of instructional programs to blind/visually impaired students.
• Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Positive score on a valid formal assessment (Parapro or Paraeducator) indicating ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics, or readiness for each OR ability to pass the assessment within the first six months of hire.
• Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting as a caregiver.
• Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand and follow directions and to maintain records and documentation.
• Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide direction to residential students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with blind/visually impaired students.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance.
• Must be able to walk/stand for at least eight hours.

Additional Requirements

• Employment contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months.
