Job summary

Global Sumi Technologies Inc. in Mechanicsville, VA is seeking a Senior MS SQL Database Administrator to manage and optimize SQL Server environments.

The role emphasizes clustering, mirroring, high availability, and large databases, with strong T-SQL skills and Windows platform experience. The candidate will monitor uptime, troubleshoot connectivity and security issues, tune long-running queries, and lead database installations and migrations, including Azure cloud integration and SQL Server

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases.
• 1 year of Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks experience (cert acceptable in lieu of experience).
• Master’s degree in computer science, information systems or equivalent.
• Experience communicating effectively using standard requirements and design artifacts.
• Experience upgrading Tolling SQL Server environments from older versions.
• Experience diagnosing deadlocks and blocking in Tolling production workloads.
• Experience tuning Very Large Databases (2 TB+) and minimizing resource contention.

Responsibilities

• Monitor databases to maintain uptime and availability.
• Troubleshoot application/database issues related to connectivity, access, security, etc.
• Tune long running SQL statements and queries.
• Review and refine existing database tasks and processes to align with priorities.
• Leverage OS scripting in support of database maintenance and diagnosis.
• Review the existing database implementation and propose/execute changes.
• Perform SQL Server installations (2022, 2025+ with failover clustering).
• Support SQL Server databases (administration, support, tuning).
• Knowledgeable of data modeling principles.

The Selected Candidate Will

Qualifications

• At least 6 years of experience w/ Microsoft SQLServer database


• At least 1 year of Azure, Snowflake, orDatabricks experience (a certification is acceptable in lieu of experience)


• Master’s degree in computer science, informationsystems or other applicable and/or equivalent skills, knowledge and/or workhistory


• Demonstrated experience in communicatingeffectively using standard requirements and design artifacts


• Minimum 3–4 years hands-on experience upgradingE‑ZPassVirginia Tolling SQL Server environments from SQL 2012 to SQL 2019, includingcompatibility evaluations, Query Tuning Assistant, and Database MigrationAssistant.


• Experience diagnosing and resolving deadlocksand blocking in Tolling production workloads, including extended events, QueryStore, and wait statistic analysis.


• Experience tuning Very Large Databases (2 TB+)including index optimization, long‑running workload analysis, andminimizing resource contention.
