Health Education Educator Position for Middle School

QUALIFICATIONS

• Candidate must hold a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) license in Health Education.
• Knowledge of the organizational structure and elements of a successful program, in alignment with the MA Model of Health Education curriculum.
• Understanding of leadership theories and principles, developmental theory, social justice theory, learning theories, multiculturalism and health and wellness theories.
• Knowledge of the full continuum of health and wellness services, such as prevention and intervention.
• Thorough understanding of barriers to student learning and the use of decisions making models to eliminate those barriers.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate.

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide comprehensive health education that is medically accurate, age and developmentally appropriate.
• Implement curriculum that is culturally inclusive and in a safe and supportive learning environment where ALL students feel valued.
• Use the Health Education Frameworks to serve as a guiding document for Health Education curriculum and instruction.
• Promote healthy lifestyle habits, healthy relationships and health-literacy for all students.
• Provide programs and services that develop essential attitudes, knowledge and skills for student to make healthy and informed decisions.
• Organize program coordination with staff, parents/caregivers and community resources.
