TITLE: MS Cheerleading Coach

POSITION TYPE: INST

STIPEND AMOUNT: $2232.00

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience in Cheerleading as participant and/or coach or related position.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• The ability to drive students to competition sites as required.

Desired:

• CPR and First Aid Certification.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides leadership to develop and maintain a high‑quality cheer program that promotes school spirit. Supports each participating student in achieving a higher level of skill, an enhanced appreciation for the values of discipline and teamwork, and an increased level of self‑esteem.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Coach and instruct cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport for events or competition.
• Attend coaching/sponsor meetings as assigned by building or district administration.
• Submit annual activity plan to activities office by October 1st. Submission of plan will be required before the initial stipend payment is paid.
• Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
• Organize meetings for team prospects and encourage student participation. Hold tryouts or conduct auditions to select members of the cheerleading squad.
• Assess skills and assign team positions.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and provide proper supervision of students at all times.
• Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
• Work with the Activity Director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season.
• Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other related records.
• Conference with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student.
• Model sportsman‑like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
• Submit reports (with student evidence) and activity checklists to building and district administration as requested.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

• Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
• Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
• Attend district‑wide meetings as requested.
