Job summary

Callanan Middle in Des Moines, IA, is seeking a part-time MS Cheerleading Coach to lead a high school cheer program and promote school spirit.   • Maintain standards of student behavior and supervise students at all times.
  • Monitor academic performance to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
  • Work with the Activity Director to develop award policies and report winners.
  • Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data, equipment inventory and related records.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student performance.
  • Model sportsmanlike conduct toward cheerleaders, officials and spectators.
  • Submit reports and activity checklists to administration.

TITLE: MS Cheerleading Coach

POSTION TYPE: INST

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Required: 1. Previous experience in Cheerleading as participant and/or coach or related position.
  • Required: 2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: 3. Valid driver’s license.
  • Required: 4. The ability to drive students to competition sites as required.
  • Desired: 1. CPR and First Aid Certification.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides leadership to develop and maintain a high-quality cheer program that promotes school spirit. Supports each participating student in achieving a higher level of skill, an enhanced appreciation for the values of discipline and teamwork, and an increased level of self-esteem.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coach and instruct cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport for events or competition.
  • Attend coaching/sponsor meetings as assigned by building or district administration.
  • Submit annual activity plan to activities office by October 1st. Submission of plan will be required before the initial stipend payment is paid. (Activity plan templates will be available)
  • Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Organize meetings for team prospects and encourage student participation. Hold tryouts or conduct auditions to select members of the cheerleading squad
  • Assess skills and assign team positions.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and provide proper supervision of students at all times.
  • Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  • Work with the Activity Director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  • Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  • Conference with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student.
  • Model sportsman-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
  • Submit reports (with student evidence) and activity checklists to building and district administration as requested.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned
  • Attend district-wide meetings as requested.
