Job summary

ACH Food Companies, Inc. is seeking a MRO Buyer in Summit, IL to source non-inventory items, MRO supplies, and service contracts. The role involves coordinating inventories, obtaining bids, evaluating offers, and maintaining cost controls while ensuring supplier performance and compliance.

You will collaborate with vendors and production teams, manage returns, and help implement purchasing policies. A two‑year college or equivalent degree and ERP experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Procure non-inventory items, MRO, capital equipment, and service contracts.
  • Coordinate inventories, min/max levels, and supplier bids/quotations.
  • Review inventory levels and optimize safety stocks.
  • Correspond with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Maintain standardization programs and correct COI, liens, warranties.
  • Coordinate returns, repairs, and disposition of faulty supplies.
  • Track costs and perform follow-up to close outstanding items.
  • Support storeroom cycle counts and proper storage conditions.
  • Assist in developing purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Ensure MSDS documents are current for purchased items.

The Role:

Provide the site with the necessary items to operate daily; including orders for min/max stores related items, service providers, outside contractors, emergency purchases, and routine administrative while coordinating inventories to minimize investment, obsolescence and other costs.

What You’ll Do:
  • Procure all non‑inventory items, MRO supplies, Capital Equipment, Maintenance and Service Contracts, Bulk Gases, Chemicals, and all outsourcing agreements.
  • Provide sources of supplies for employees to aid in determining their needs
  • Review inventory levels, adjust safety stocks and adjust min./max. levels to maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials.
  • Issue requests for bids/quotations to ensure competitive quoting process is adhered to
  • Evaluate competitive offerings and determine overall best offer for a product or service
  • Implement and maintain standardization programs
  • Identify and or select potential sources of supply
  • Coordinate all returns and repairs
  • Act as liaison between vendors and production for faulty supplies
  • Determine disposition of faulty supplies
  • Track costs associated with defective materials and charge back suppliers
  • Conduct follow‐up and expedite activities
  • Help establish purchasing polices and procedures
  • Ensure MSDS stays current for newly purchased items
  • Secure and maintain Certificate of Insurance, Waiver of Liens, and Warranties
  • Coordinate local/town pick‑ups
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies involving price, quantity, or service
  • Maintain relationships with Corporate Personnel by providing information as requested
  • Participate in storeroom cycle counting process
  • Spot check inventory for proper storage and general condition
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Controller

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Word, Excel, Access, SAP, Heiler experience is a plus
  • Flexibility – must be able to manage many things at once and prioritize work. Must be able to handle the many interruptions that come in throughout the day
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to frequently sit and talk or hear. The employee will also occasionally stand, walk and use hands and fingers. There will be occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two‑year College or technical school or 1‑2 years manufacturing buying experience in a plant environment is a plus.
