Job summary

UPMC is seeking an experienced MRI Technologist to perform advanced imaging and ensure MR safety, supporting multiple units. Weekend duties run 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, with 24 hours per weekend and a 2-year commitment.

Candidates need 3+ years MRI experience, ARRT/ARMRIT MR certification, CPR/BLS, and an AMA Radiologic Technology degree. A $20,000 sign-on bonus is offered with a 2-year commitment, plus a 15% incentive on weekend pay and full benefits.

Job description

UPMC offers a $20,000 sign on bonus with a 2-year commitment.


In addition to performing imaging procedures at an advanced level, provides technical expertise to multiple business units. Functions as a resource to staff to provide orientation, continuing education and protocol development. This position will work the weekend program from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.


Eligible participants must have a minimum of 6 months of experience and work 48 weekends per year, 24 hours per weekend (either two 12-hour or three 8-hour shifts per weekend), between the hours of Friday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 7:00 a.m. A 15%25 incentive will be added to their hourly rate.
Weekend program benefits (medical benefits, paid short-term and long-term disability, tuition reimbursement, PTO accrual) offered as for full-time staff.
Responsibilities:



  • Performs all job responsibilities of Level II Advanced MRI Technologist including practices and maintains MR safety in the department, addresses patient safety through proper patient identification, labeling/preparation/and administration of contrast and communicating according to standard operating procedures, completes procedures according to protocol while presenting relevant information to physician, and updates and documents patient information into rad assessment.

  • Creates and implements new training programs, where applicable, and assists with the startup of new offsite locations. Responsibilities for new locations include, but are not limited to, working on reporting systems, obtaining appropriate images and effectively communicating with attending physicians as well as co-workers and patients.

  • Leads training on new techniques, protocols, and software applications and collaborates with radiologists and researchers where applicable to identify new techniques and problem solving resolutions. Responsible for offering remediation with technologists when necessary. Assist with research studies where applicable.

  • Responsible for tech quality assurance program and the reviewing and updating of protocols alongside of or in place of the Lead MRI Tech. Assumes leadership role in training staff on new equipment.

  • Attends advanced training sessions and seminars in order to maintain industry standards in imaging techniques and disseminates information to imaging departmental leadership and as a part of new hire orientation.

  • Assist with accreditation responsibilities and ensures that all quality control tests, safety standards and procedures are conducted and documented and that performance of all equipment is accurate within established parameters.

  • Serves as a technical resource to technologists on a daily operational basis. Assist technologist with continuing education needs and participates as a peer delegate in staff annual performance reviews.





  • Graduate of an approved AMA School of Radiologic technology.

  • 3 years of experience in MRI required.
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    ARRT or ARMRIT MR Certified required. CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • ARRT Certificate OR American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT) OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
