Job Summary

Completing MRI exams prescribed by a Radiologist that are performed on/at the posted shift/site once competencies are acquired.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic MRI procedures as prescribed.
• Verify patient history and contraindications, documenting all information for use by licensed practitioners.
• Position patients appropriately, ensuring safety and comfort, using hearing protection and immobilization techniques as needed.
• Apply MRI safety principles to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and self.
• Select appropriate imaging coils and operate MRI equipment according to protocols.
• Evaluate image quality and proper identification.
• Prepare and administer contrast media under radiologist supervision and departmental protocols.
• Provide instruction to patients, students, and healthcare professionals.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate guest relation skills.
• Ensure the scan and control rooms are properly stocked (IV supplies, linens).
• Communicate effectively with technologists and lead technologists.
• Train new staff to meet departmental standards.
• Assume Lead Technologist or PCT roles when vacated.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from a radiologic technology school or equivalent education/experience.
• Registration by ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT, with first attempt within 6 months of hire/transfer and up to 3 attempts within 18 months.
• MRI Registry eligible candidates must pass within 2 years of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent hospital-based MRI experience.
• Advanced MRI imaging and research experience.
• Epic system experience.
• IV insertion experience.

Work Schedule

Every weekend (Sat/Sun), 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.

This position is covered under the U-M and UMMAP collective bargaining agreement.
