Job summary

Kingman Healthcare is seeking an MRI Technologist to perform MRI procedures under Radiologist supervision. The role requires careful patient positioning, imaging accuracy, and strict safety practices to deliver high-quality diagnostic images.

Qualifications include ARRT MRI (MR) or ARMRIT accreditation, BLS certification, and current licensure with MRI certification to be completed within 9 months of hire. Per diem shifts with defined weekly hours and compensation apply.

Qualifications

  • Experience: On the job training with outside didactic education (e.g., Galveston College) or prior MRI experience.

Responsibilities

  • Under Radiologist direction, anatomically positions patient and performs MRI procedures.
  • Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures for quality diagnostic outcomes.
  • Selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices and performs patient care planning.
  • Reviews data and assesses patient condition to ensure safe and effective procedures.
  • Monitors patient and equipment during procedures and documents start/stop times and reactions.

Job description

Position Title: MRI Technologist Position Code: TechMRI-6142

Department: Imaging Safety Sensitive: Yes

Reports to: Imaging Supervisor Exempt Status: No

Per Diem must work a minimum of six (6) shifts within six (6) weeks and up to a maximum of 19 hours per week.

Per Diem Rate is $49.25 per hour

Position Purpose

Key Responsibilities
Evaluation and Implementation of Appropriate Care
  • Under the direction of the Radiologist, anatomically positions the patient and performs imaging procedures utilizing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
  • Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
  • After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan.
  • Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices.
  • Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media.
  • Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
  • Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
  • Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
  • Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
  • Able to use extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and resources to obtain the maximum diagnostic image (injectors, respiratory gating software, patient vitals monitor, etc.).
Quality of Care
  • The technologist provides evidence-based care to prevent the development of a hospital acquired condition and hospital readmissions.
  • The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
Qualifications

Education: Graduate of Radiologic Technology Program or MRI Program Accredited through ARRT or ARMRIT

Experience: On the job training with outside didactic education i.e., Galveston College or previous MRI experience

Certification: BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Licensure:

  • Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) MRI Certification (MR)orAmerican Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
  • Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)and MRI certification through ARRT required within 9 months of hire

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates ability to effectively perform advanced MRI angiography to include bilateral run-off’s and the required reformatting with additions and subtraction of raw data.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and responsibility for magnetic resonance safety compliance requirements.
Preferences

Education: Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT or ARMRIT.

Experience: Preferred minimum of one-year experience as an MRI technologist

Exposure Categories:

Category I:Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Other potential hazards: exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.

Work Requirements
  • Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.
  • Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.
  • Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.
  • Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.
