Job summary

Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, part of Southern Illinois Healthcare, seeks an MRI Technologist for PRN/Part-time coverage. The role includes preparing patients, conducting MRI scans, and applying safety protocols to ensure high-quality imaging and patient care.

ARRT MR certification and BLS are required, with MRI-specific training available if needed. Experience with CT is a plus; the team collaborates closely with nursing and radiology staff, and participation in QA and education activities

Qualifications

• Prepares and explains exams to patients.
• Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging to optimize procedures and ensure patient care/safety.
• Performs imaging procedures based on assessment of patient status, service request, and imaging protocols.
• Monitors by periodic Image Evaluations and Supervision.
• Ensures MRI Safety precautions to patients, families, co-workers and others in MRI zone 3 and 4.
• Assesses patient needs and provides imaging-related comfort, hygiene and range of motion support.
• Prepares contrast agents per procedural guidelines.
• Educates patients regarding MRI procedures and contrast media.
• Promotes team approach with staff across departments.
• Processes exams and makes available on PACS.
• Participates in education/oversight of orientees and students.
• Completes QA per American College of Radiology.

Responsibilities

• Provides quality MRI imaging services.
• Operates MRI equipment and safety protocols.
• Explains exams to patients and prepares them for procedures.
• Maintains knowledge of anatomy and imaging procedures.
• Performs exams in the specialty area as assigned.
• Reports equipment failures and coordinates with Biomed.
