Job Description
Responsible for creating cross-sectional images of patients' bodies for diagnostic purposes, using magnetic resonance imaging equipment.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Positions patient on examining table and places specified coil (receiver) such as head coil or knee coil, close to the area of interest, following protocols requested by Radiologist.
- Demonstrates use of microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during examination.
- Enters data, such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into the aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first), into the computer.
- Keys commands to specify scan sequences and adjust transmitters and receivers into the computer.
- Observes the patient through the window of the control room and on the closed-circuit TV screen to monitor safety and comfort.
- Views images of areas being scanned on the video display screen to ensure quality of pictures.
- Keys in data on the keyboard of the camera to photograph images.
- Alerts staff entering the magnet room to the danger of wearing or carrying metal around the magnet.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
