Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado is seeking a per diem MRI Technologist to perform high quality pediatric diagnostic MRI procedures and provide conscientious patient care.

You will work independently with an MRI Tech Assistant, handle patient instructions, scheduling, and records, and travel to support other locations as needed while maintaining safety standards and strong communication with patients and families.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Radiology program.
  • ARRT MR or ARMRIT MR certification.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider certification.

Responsibilities

  • Produces high quality imaging while accurately demonstrating anatomy and pathology using proper protocols.
  • Assists with procedures and follows procedural guidelines; documents required information.
  • Follows department policies, procedures and QA/QC, and reports safety concerns.
  • Maintains MRI safety and security per manual; ensures safety of MRI Zones 3 and 4.
  • Operates MRI equipment and uses RIS/EMR/PACS in modality-specific functions.
  • Communicates clearly with patients, families, and hospital staff; supports patient flow daily.

Job description

Performs high quality pediatric diagnostic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures. Provides conscientious patient care while adhering to all quality and safety standards. Prioritizes MRI safety and performs work following established safety protocols at all times. Performs administrative duties including but not limited to scheduling appointments, patient instructions, and maintenance of records. This position is responsible for communicating regularly with patients, families, and all hospital and community caregivers while following department expectations for interactions with patients and families.

The MR Tech in this position works independently but is supported by an MRI Tech Assistant. Patient volume averages 9-10 per day, with each appointment scheduled for 45-90 minutes.

Department: South Campus MRI. Hours per week: PRN (as needed). Shift: Varied shifts which may include days/evenings/nights. This position may also include weekends as determined by the needs of the department. Position is eligible for shift differentials (PRN, evening, night & weekend). Taking call is encouraged, but not required. This position will require travel to provide support at all our system of care locations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Produces high quality imaging while accurately demonstrating anatomy and pathology utilizing proper diagnostic imaging protocols.
  • Assists Provider with procedures as necessary (Maintaining technologist Scope of Practice). Follows established procedural guidelines; documents appropriate information as required; practices aseptic/sterile technique and standard precautions when necessary.
  • Follows department policies, procedures and protocols. Raises or addresses concerns regarding non-compliance or patient/staff safety.
  • Follows established quality assurance/control (QA/QC) and safety programs to include The Joint Commission, American College of Radiology (ACR), and the State of Colorado.
  • Promptly reports equipment malfunctions or errors and contacts respective service engineer or Biomed for repair.
  • Demonstrates initial and annual competency in MRI safety in accordance with our MRI safety manual. Ensures the safety and security of MRI Zones 3 and 4 as a Level 2 MRI personnel.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively in both verbal and written forms, following established department guidelines for customer service.
  • Maintains flexibility around shift scheduling, location, call requirements, overtime and weekend assignments to align with organizational need.
  • Facilitates patient flow daily; to include management of STAT/urgent and high priority patients.
  • Provides age-appropriate care and appropriately prepares patients for procedures.
  • Provides clear and detailed information regarding the procedure and care to patients, families, coworkers, and others.
  • Operates all MRI equipment; to include ancillary equipment following safety procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrates and maintains competency and ability to use all aspects of Radiology Information System (RIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) as it pertains to modality specific functions and use.
  • Demonstrates initial and annual competency in IV placement and securement, vascular access devices and extravasation handling.
  • In the event of an emergency will act as first responder and provide Basic Life Support (BLS) until help arrives.
  • Verifies patient allergies and clinical indications prior to contrast administration. Safely administers contrast using the five rights. Ensures contrast is appropriately ordered and documented in patients' medical record.
Minimum Qualifications
  • EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited Radiology program
  • CERTIFICATION(S):
    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Registered Magnetic Resonance Technologist ARRT(MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT-MR)
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider
Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $34.78 to $52.17
