Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado in Colorado Springs seeks a PRN MRI Technologist to perform high-quality pediatric MRI procedures and ensure patient safety, while managing scheduling, documentation in RIS/EMR/PACS, and on-call duties. The role requires graduation from an accredited Radiology program with ARRT MR or ARMRIT MR certification and BLS.

You will communicate with patients and families and collaborate with caregivers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • BLS for Healthcare Provider.

Responsibilities

  • Produces high quality imaging while accurately demonstrating anatomy and pathology utilizing proper diagnostic imaging protocols.
  • Facilitates patient flow daily; to include management of STAT/urgent and high priority patients.
  • Provides age-appropriate care and appropriately prepares patients for procedures.
  • Provides clear and detailed information regarding the procedure and care to patients, families, coworkers, and others.
  • Operates all MRI equipment; to include ancillary equipment following safety procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrates and maintains competency and ability to use all aspects of RIS, EMR, PACS as it pertains to modality specific functions and use.
  • Demonstrates initial and annual competency in IV placement and securement, vascular access devices and extravasation handling.
  • In the event of an emergency will act as first responder and provide BLS until help arrives.
  • Verifies patient allergies and clinical indications prior to contrast administration. Safely administers contrast using the five rights.
  • Assists Provider with procedures as necessary; follows established guidelines; documents information; practices aseptic/sterile technique and standard precautions.
  • Follows department policies, procedures and protocols; raises concerns regarding non-compliance or safety.
  • Follows QA/QC and safety programs including Joint Commission, ACR, and Colorado regulations.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions or errors and contacts service engineer or Biomed for repair.
  • Demonstrates MRI safety competency and ensures MRI Zone 3/4 safety as Level 2 personnel.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively in verbal and written forms; adheres to customer service guidelines.
  • Maintains flexibility around shift scheduling, location, call requirements, overtime and weekend assignments.

Job Overview

Performs high quality pediatric diagnostic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures. Provides conscientious patient care while adhering to all quality and safety standards. Prioritizes MRI safety and performs work following established safety protocols at all times. Performs administrative duties including but not limited to scheduling appointments, patient instructions, and maintenance of records. This position is responsible for communicating regularly with patients, families, and all hospital and community caregivers while following department expectations for interactions with patients and families. This position is required to be on call depending on the position's location.

Additional Information
  • Hours per Week: PRN (as needed)
  • Shift: Variable day/evening hours, with weekend support.
  • Position is eligible for shift differentials (PRN, evening & weekend).
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates and maintains competency and ability to use all aspects of Radiology Information System (RIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) as it pertains to modality specific functions and use.
  • Demonstrates initial and annual competency in IV placement and securement, vascular access devices and extravasation handling.
  • In the event of an emergency will act as first responder and provide Basic Life Support (BLS) until help arrives.
  • Verifies patient allergies and clinical indications prior to contrast administration. Safely administers contrast using the five rights. Ensures contrast is appropriately ordered and documented in patients' medical record.
  • Assists Provider with procedures as necessary (Maintaining technologist Scope of Practice). Follows established procedural guidelines; documents appropriate information as required; practices aseptic/sterile technique and standard precautions when necessary.
  • Follows department policies, procedures and protocols. Raises or addresses concerns regarding non-compliance or patient/staff safety.
  • Follows established quality assurance/control (QA/QC) and safety programs to include The Joint Commission, American College of Radiology (ACR), and the State of Colorado.
  • Promptly reports equipment malfunctions or errors and contacts respective service engineer or Biomed for repair.
  • Demonstrates initial and annual competency in MRI safety in accordance with our MRI safety manual.Ensures the safety and security of MRI Zones 3 and 4 as a Level 2 MRI personnel.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively in both verbal and written forms, following established department guidelines for customer service.
  • Maintains flexibility around shift scheduling, location, call requirements, over-time and weekend assignments to align with organizational need.
Minimum Qualifications
  • EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited Radiology program
  • CERTIFICATION(S):
    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Registered Magnetic Resonance Technologist ARRT(MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT-MR)
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider
Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $34.78 to $52.17
