Magnetic resonance imaging technologists, also called MRI technologists, utilize magnetic resonance imaging scanners to capture specific images ordered by a physician to aid in patient diagnosis. MRI technologists must be able to follow a physician's instructions closely, prepare and operate MRI equipment, position patients correctly, and effectively record the requested diagnostic images.

A caregiver in this position works four 10-hour shifts from 9:00AM to 8:00PM.

A successful candidate will:

  • Prepare and check patients prior to MRI procedures.
  • Review patient questionnaires, charts, and data/requisitions to determine contraindications for MRI exams.
  • Verify and validate patient screening safety forms.
  • Perform MRI procedures according to protocol and conduct daily quality assurance.
  • Perform venipunctures as needed.
  • Educate patients about MRI procedures, equipment, and exams.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during and after exams.
  • Assist with scheduling patients.
  • Administer contrast agents appropriately during MRI exams.
  • Acquire, archive, transmit, and print images via PACS.
  • Complete after-hours transmission of images and paperwork.
  • Report malfunctions immediately, observe equipment issues, and coordinate repairs.
  • Maintain high equipment uptime for patient accessibility.
  • Process billing via RIS.
  • Potentially rotate through all imaging modalities, sites, and locations.
Minimum qualifications include:
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology program or equivalent.
  • Registration with ARRT in good standing (R.T.(R), R.T.(S), or R.T.(T)).
  • OR registration as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) or ARRT R.T.(N).
  • Certification in MRI (R.T.(MR)) required within one year of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and pathology.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • At least one year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist or in other imaging modalities.

Physical Requirements:
  • Extended standing and walking.
  • Ability to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weights and manipulate equipment.
  • Frequent pushing and pulling of equipment up to 75 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Use of PPE as required, following standard precautions.
