Job Description
The Radiographer MRI reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging to demonstrate sectional anatomic images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient’s conditions essential for successful completion of the procedures. Services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Performs MRI procedures according to set protocols established by radiologists.
- Evaluates the request for procedures and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.
- Appropriately employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate quality images.
- Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of patient care, age-specific sensitivities, and “patients first” guidelines.
- Participates in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices.
- Evaluates the resultant images in comparison with industry standards and takes corrective action if needed. Refers to appropriate reference materials for clarification when needed.
- Provides patient education in the form of written material and/or verbal explanations prior to, during, and after the procedure to reduce anxiety and improve patient comfort and tolerance.
- Performs imaging procedures following safe practice guidelines for MRI.
- Performs preliminary interpretation by applying independent judgment, customizing procedures accordingly, and expediting radiologist intervention if necessary.
- Notifies physicians of changes in patient condition or unique imaging characteristics.
- Maintains flexibility to accommodate daily schedule and high productivity levels.
- Collaborates with Resource Coordinators and Technical Coordinators to learn and become proficient in new procedures and software updates.
- Documents imaging procedures manually and electronically to ensure correct billing, patient, and film file tracking.
- Sends acquired images to PACS system correctly, using appropriate accession numbers for future retrieval.
- Monitors supplies in imaging rooms, ensuring their availability through timely reordering and maintenance of a clean environment.
- Reports equipment failures, irregularities, and disrepair to supervisory and technical staff promptly.
- Distributes outpatient surveys for self-evaluation and enhances the patient experience, providing high-quality imaging services efficiently.
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology or MRI program – Diploma/Certificate of completion.
- ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT certification or eligibility, with certification obtained within 1 year of employment.
- CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA).
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Licensed with Illinois Emergency Management Department of Nuclear Safety Administration.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification in Radiography (ARRT)(R).
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology.
