Job description

Join to apply for the MRI Technologist role at CHI.

Position Summary: Uses machines that utilize strong magnets and radio waves, instead of radiation, to create body images. The MRI technologist works in the imaging department and has specific training to perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the MRI department.

Responsibilities:

  • Enforce magnetic field safety for MRI patients, operators, and visitors.
  • Monitor patient’s condition before and after the scan to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Explain testing procedures to patients, ensuring understanding of the exam involvement.
  • Position and instruct patients on MRI test preparation.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy of the head, thorax, and abdomen, physiology, and MRI terminology, practices, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with specific MRI coding systems.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Prepare equipment, ensuring it is operational, safe, and functioning correctly.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failure and imaging quality issues, contacting service representatives as needed.
  • Complete quality checks and maintain equipment logs.
  • Manage clinical supply inventory to ensure diagnostic rooms are stocked.
  • Participate actively in patient exams, including routine, urgent, and emergent requests.
  • Assist with basic clinical care and patient scheduling as required.
  • Provide patient orientation, preparation, history-taking, and teaching before, during, and after exams.
  • Review physician orders to verify exam types and indications.
  • Select and modify equipment settings for optimal image quality.
  • Complete exams according to departmental protocols.
  • Seek assistance for incomplete procedures or patient care issues.
  • Ensure exam completion, proper documentation, and patient discharge.
  • Perform image post-processing and quality assurance, including documentation.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (required)
  • Associate’s Degree in Healthcare or Imaging Studies (preferred)
  • Current ARRT (R) registration, maintained regularly
  • ARMRIT or ARRT (MR) certification within 9 months of hire/transfer
  • Texas MRT certification within 9 months of hire/transfer
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association

Experience: Previous MRI experience preferred.
