Job summary

CareWell Health in New Jersey is seeking an MRI Technologist to perform a variety of MRI procedures across patient ages, from pediatric to geriatric, using state-of-the-art equipment to aid physicians.

Under general supervision, you will take histories, calibrate MRI equipment, select imaging techniques, ensure safety, inject contrast when appropriate, and help train staff; this role requires ARRT MRI certification, NJ General Radiography licensure, and BLS.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and AMA‑approved radiologic technology certificate or A.A.S.
  • NJ State DEP licensure – General Radiography.
  • ARRT certification with MRI advanced level.
  • BLS certification required.
  • At least 1 year of MRI experience.

Responsibilities

  • Take brief medical histories from patients.
  • Calibrate MRI console and peripherals.
  • Operate MRI scanners and select imaging techniques.
  • Inject gadolinium contrast per scope of practice when required.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort during MRI procedures.

Job description

Job Summary

Under general supervision, and following established procedures, performs a variety of MRI procedures on pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, using state of the art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment in order to provide information for physicians for the diagnosis and treatment of patients' illnesses and injuries.

Essential Functions
  • Take brief medical histories from patients.
  • Conduct inventories to maintain stock of clinical supplies.
  • Schedule appointments for research subjects or clinical patients.
  • Attach physiological monitoring leads to patient's finger, chest, waist, or other body parts.
  • Calibrate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) console or peripheral hardware.
  • Develop or otherwise produce film records of magnetic resonance images.
  • Explain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures to patients, patient representatives, or family members.
  • Must take an MRI safety course upon hire and annually to include all aspects of MRI Zones, screening patients and working in a ferrous environment.
  • Inject intravenously contrast dyes, such as gadolinium contrast, in accordance with scope of practice.
  • Inspect images for quality, using magnetic resonance scanner equipment and laser camera.
  • Operate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners.
  • Provide headphones or earplugs to patients to improve comfort and reduce unpleasant noise.
  • Select appropriate imaging techniques or coils to produce required images.
  • Position patients on cradle, attaching immobilization devices if needed, to ensure appropriate placement for imaging.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner or peripheral equipment, such as monitors or coils.
  • Instruct medical staff or students in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures or equipment operation.
  • Operate optical systems to capture dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images, such as functional brain imaging, real-time organ motion tracking, or musculoskeletal anatomy and trajectory visualization.
  • Place and secure small, portable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners on body part to be imaged, such as arm, leg, or head.
  • Request sedatives or other medication from physicians for patients with anxiety or claustrophobia.
  • Test magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to ensure proper functioning and performance in accordance with specifications.
  • Write reports or notes to summarize testing procedures or outcomes for physicians or other medical professionals.

Minimum Education/Certifications

Education: High school; Graduate of 2-year AMA approved Certificate program or A.A.S. Degree in Radiologic Technology.

Licensure: New Jersey State Department of Environmental Protection - General Radiography.

Certification: ARRT and Advance Level Certification in MRI

BLS certification

Minimum Work Experience

At least 1 year of MRI experience

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed
