Job summary

Billings Clinic seeks an MRI Technologist to operate and maintain the MRI scanner, ensuring patient safety and high-quality MR images. You will collaborate with radiologists and clinicians to select appropriate protocols and provide excellent patient care.

The role requires ARRT certification or eligibility within six months, CPR certification, and Montana licensure. Evening or night shifts, full-time status, wage DOE.

Qualifications

• ARRT registry or eligible within six months of employment.
• CPR certification required.
• Current Montana state licensure for Radiologic Technology.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the MRI scanner and ensure high-quality diagnostic images.
• Enhance patient safety and comfort during procedures.
• Collaborate with radiologists and referring physicians on protocol selection.
• Perform secretarial/clerical duties as needed and assist with scheduling and registration.

Under the general supervision of the Manager, the MRI Technologist operates and maintains the magnetic resonance scanner, enhances public awareness concerning magnetic resonance imaging, and assures the safety of patients and public in application of high quality diagnostic magnetic resonance (MR) images.

Essential Job Functions

• Supports and models behaviors consistent with themission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.
• According to established procedures and protocols,prepares patient for exam by assisting with dressing and undressing; assuringthe removal of all metal objects and proper patient screening, lifting andassisting the patient to the exam table, proper positioning and preparation forthe MR exam.
• Responsible for patient and family education prior tothe procedure, minimizing claustrophobic reactions and obtaining cooperationfrom the patients.
• Performs the MR procedures that best assists thereferring physician and radiologist in obtaining a diagnosis and improvingpatient management. Uses personal judgement in protocol development. Involvesthe radiologist and referring physician in protocol selection.
• Maintains patient and visitor safety with regard toentering the scan room. Ensures that no ferromagnetic objects enter the scanroom. Ensures that personal articles are not inadvertently carried into theroom and damaged. Responsible for maintaining the security zone strictlylimiting access to the magnet room.
• Provides the radiologist with digital images within 30minutes of completed exam. Ensure proper patient history and scan protocolinformation is included. All pertinent information is supplied to theradiologists expediently. Assists radiologist with directly viewing andmanipulating images via viewing console and network technologies.
• Performs secretarial, clerical duties as required. Mayassist with proper patient scheduling, patient registration, answeringquestions and filing.
• Takes an active role in policy formation and revision.Make recommendations to Manager for changes. Participation in the developmentof departmental goals and objectives. Will make recommendations andpresentations to Medical Directors and other health care professionals whenrequested. This includes typing skills, computer skills, presentation skillsand basic research abilities.
• Responsible for proper venipuncture technique to injectcontrast media under the supervision of a radiologist or assist the RadiologyRN in establishing proper vein access. Must be prepared to aggressively assistor take responsibility in an emergency situation.
• Maintains knowledge of current applications within fieldby reading appropriate journal articles, attending lectures, in-services andseminars. Must utilize these resources to self‑teach basic MR physics duringthe first year in absence of accredited MR training program. Identifies needsand sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatoryorganizational and departmental requirements.
• Maintains competency in all organizational, departmentaland outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevantto job performance.
• Performs other duties asassigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization includingmaintaining inventory of medical supplies, linen, , other associated scansupplies; maintaining a neat, orderly work area; cleaning magnet and patienttransport table; maintaining other ancillary equipment.
