Qualifications

  • Three years of experience preferred or recommendation from training program.
  • Current Radiography (R) certification with ARRT; MRI credential preferred or within one year of hire.
  • Current license with the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program.
  • Current CPR certification or obtained within three months of hire.
  • Knowledge of MRI safety hazards and patient handling.

Responsibilities

  • Follows MRI safety protocols and standards.
  • Screens and prepares the patient for the exam, including history.
  • Performs MRI exams and procedures.
  • Performs QA procedures when assigned.
  • Handles clerical duties in the department.
  • Ensures MRI safety for patients, guests, and staff.
  • Maintains care and safety of patients during exams.
  • Prepares contrast media and essential supplies for each exam.
  • Starts IVs or butterfly catheters for contrast injections.
  • Cleans and maintains department equipment.
  • Stocks exam rooms with supplies.
  • Complies with policies and procedures.
  • Completes RIS, PACS and PenRad entries.
  • Interacts with schedulers to facilitate exams.
  • Assists in obtaining prior images for comparison.
  • Participates in staff development and required meetings.
  • Maintains required credentials and licensing.
  • Adheres to ARRT Standards of Ethics.

Reports directly to the MRI Supervisor and indirectly to the MRI Charge Technologist.

Typical Physical Demands

Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation of department equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Assists patients and places them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 vision to operate equipment and review images.

Typical Working Conditions

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Follows and adheres to established MRI safety protocols and standards.
  2. Screens and prepares the patient for the exam, including taking a medical history and answering questions about the exam.
  3. Performs MRI exams and procedures.
  4. Performs required Quality Assurance procedures when assigned.
  5. Performs all necessary clerical duties in the department.
  6. Responsible for MRI Safety for patients, guest, and personnel in the department.
  7. Responsible for care and safety of patients during the exam.
  8. Responsible for the preparation of all contrast media and essential supplies as needed for each exam.
  9. Starts IV’s or butterfly catheters for intravenous contrast injections.
  10. Cleans and maintains equipment in department.
  11. Stocks exam rooms with necessary supplies.
  12. Complies with company and department polices, protocols, and procedures.
  13. Completes RIS, PACS and PenRad entries.
  14. Interacts with schedulers to facilitate exam scheduling and paperwork preparation.
  15. Assists in obtaining prior images for comparison.
  16. Participates in staff development and educational activities including attendance at required meetings and participating in committees as requested.
  17. Maintains required credentials and licensing.
  18. Adheres to the ARRT's Standard of Ethics.
  19. Additional duties as assigned.
QualificationsPerformance Requirements
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to sufficiently determine area for examination.
  • Knowledge in all MRI exams and procedures.
  • Knowledge of MRI equipment and testing.
  • Ability to acquire working knowledge of RIS system, EPIC EMR, PowerShare, PACS Change (McKesson), Qgenda, PenRad and scheduling software.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards common to MRI including equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement.
  • Skill in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging.
  • Skill in trouble shooting equipment operation and performing simple adjustments.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices.
  • Ability to identify problems and to communicate clearly.
Education

High school diploma or equivalent Completion of an accredited radiologic technology program.

Experience

Three years of experience preferred or recommendation from training program.

Certificate/License
  • Current Radiography (R) certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Current MRI (MR) certification preferred or must obtain MRI credential within one year of hire.
  • Current license with the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program.
  • Current CPR certification or obtained within three months of hire.
