Job summary

Starr Regional Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, seeks an MRI Technician for a per diem role in Athens. You will operate the MRI scanner, review orders, educate patients, and ensure safe, high‑quality imaging to support diagnosis and treatment.

Required ARRT/JRCERT/ARMRIT/NMTCB MR registry, BLS-HCP, and 1 year of radiologic/MR experience; strong critical thinking and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential. ARRT(MR) pursuit within 1 year preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduated from an ARRT/JRCERT/ARMRIT/NMTCB accredited program in Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy, MR, or Nuclear Medicine; associate degree preferred.
• 1 year of Radiologic technology, Radiation Therapy, MR, Nuclear Medicine, or CT experience preferred.
• BLS Health Care Provider required; MR registry with ARRT/JRCERT/ARMRIT/NMTCB; MR registry within 1 year if not yet certified.
• Must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision and strong problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Operates MRI scanner to obtain images for physician diagnoses and treatment.
• Reviews patient history and physician orders; educates patient on procedures.
• Prepares/administers contrast media or medications within scope.
• Monitors patient condition and responds to changes; ensures safety and QC.
• Positions patient and performs imaging procedures; analyzes image quality and repeats as needed.
• Enters, transmits and reports scan results.

How you'll contribute

• An MRI Technician who excels in this role operates magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images for use by physicians in diagnoses and treatment of pathologies. Additional responsibilities include:
• Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
• Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
• When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
• Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
• Prepares equipment and supplies.
• Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
• Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
• Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
• Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
• Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
• Enters, transmits and reports scan results

What we're looking for

Education:

Graduated from an ARRT, JRCERT, ARMRIT, or NMTCB accredited program in Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy, MR, or Nuclear Medicine required. Associate's degree preferred.

Experience:

1 year in Radiologic technology, Radiation Therapy, MR, Nuclear Medicine, or CT procedures preferred.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) required; ARRT, JRCERT, ARMRIT, or NMTCB registry in Radiology, Radiation Therapy, MR, or Nuclear Medicine Registry required. ARRT Registry in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) required (within 1 year hire/transfer)

Skills and Abilities:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Must be willing to work in-person and/or remotely, as needed/directed. *If not ARRT(MR), then you must work under the supervision of an ARRT(MR) technologist until your ARRT(MR) is obtained.
