Job summary

Steinberg-Diagnostic-Medical-Imaging in Las Vegas seeks a Lead Technologist to oversee MRI operations under the direction of the Chief Technologist, Technical Director and Radiologist. You will supervise facility staff and ensure adherence to policies.

Job description

The Lead Technologist performs MRI under the direction of the Chief Technologist, Technical Director and or Radiologist. Oversees all ongoing activity at assigned facilities, maintains and adheres to organization’s policies and procedures. Supervises all employees at facility as to policies, procedures and specific job demands. Takes care of physician, patient and Technologist complaints. Responsible for maintaining daily QA and weekly ACR duties. May have modality specific duties to achieve compliance with all regulations. May perform other job related duties for the efficient operation of SDMI.

MINIMUM SKILLS, ABILITY AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Maintain recertification on an ongoing basis. Principle of modality specific and skills required as such. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
• MRI and A.R.R.T./ ARMRIT registered.
• Any employee who discovers, is directly involved in or is responding to an event/occurrence/risk is required to complete or direct the completion of an occurrence report within 24 hours of event/occurrence/risk.
• Will perform periodic appraisal of each employee’s job performance, including current competencies which this position supervises.
• My job performance, including current competencies will be reviewed by my supervisor on a periodic basis. If my job performance/ current competencies are not (or continue to not be) at required level this could result in additional training and/or disciplinary action.

• Aide with difficult exams to maintain high quality of work.
• Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
• Thorough knowledge of principles of Magnetic Resonance.
• Thorough knowledge of MRI equipment, skill in MRI positioning and image slice thickness (protocols) for all MRI exams.
• Thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
• Thorough knowledge of plane and solid geometry.
• Thorough knowledge and skill in utilizing procedural protocols.
• Knowledge and skill in sterile technique.
• Understanding of RIS and PACS
• Demonstrate knowledge and compliance of patient rights including the patient confidentiality.
• Submit documentation of required current licensure and/or certification in a timely manner.
• Must be able to protocol studies depending on patient diagnosis.
• Understanding of common pathologies and how they appear on MRI scans.
• Required to handle disinfectant solutions in order to maintain a clean and safe environment for proper patient care. Required to know the hazards involved in using all Caustic Solutions related to their job duties. Should know where all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are located and how to use them properly.
• Know how to correctly review and fill out consent forms. Know importance of inquiring about patient allergies.
• Know types of contrast to use for patients that do no meet normal criteria.
• Know signs/symptoms and protocol of contrast reactions.
• Know how to adjust window to get a diagnostic image.
• Know how to emotionally support and explain procedure to patients.
• Know fire and evacuation plans for the Radiology Department including the location of the closest fire alarms and fire extinguishers.
• Know about electrical safety.
• Comply with universal precaution standards.
• Skill in organizing time to accommodate changes in workload and assignments in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Skill to pay attention to details and accuracy in completing tasks.
• Responds positively to changes in assignments and priorities.
• Works as an effective team member with co-workers and other personnel.
• Communicates effectively when follow up is needed.
• Able to identify hazardous material in immediate work area.
• Know and follows all SDMI safety and evacuation guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Willingly participates in cross-training activities within the department in for own professional growth in order to contribute to the overall function of SDMI.
• Assumes responsibility for updating knowledge of current SDMI department policies and procedures, protocol and practices.
• Demonstrates punctuality by reporting to work on time/satisfactory attendance record that complies with SDMI attendance policy.
• Takes full responsibility for all functions within job description and assures that all functions are completed before leaving SDMI at the end of the shift.
• Other duties as assigned.
