Job description

Overview

The MRI Technologist performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed magnetic resonance imaging for diagnosis.

Responsibilities
  • Perform the technical aspects of MRI/MRA displaying quality and proficiency.
  • Perform daily calibrations and record results as per protocol.
  • Select appropriate coil to reduce noise, increase signal and maximize resolution.
  • Demonstrate job knowledge by selecting correct acquisition parameters.
  • Review physician orders with the radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained as required.
  • Accept patients and assess their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.
  • Explain procedure to patients/families and answer any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.
  • Recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Demonstrate safety and job knowledge in administration of parenteral contrast agents.
  • Obtain and review patient history screening questionnaire.
  • Respond and follow up on critical test findings.
  • Acquire and evaluate patient lab values to ensure they are within normal limits when applicable.
  • Check and inspect suite, equipment and accessories daily for hazards; troubleshoot malfunctions and report dangerous conditions.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Check stock supply levels and maintain supplies at par level.
  • Cleans and disinfects equipment; maintain supply of linen in the room.
  • Participate in department QC and PI programs; follow up on deficiencies.
  • Maintain proper sterile technique; practice aseptic techniques; wash hands before and after each patient contact.
  • Adhere to hospital policy on body substance isolation.
  • Wear film badge while on duty and follow departmental procedures for badge results.
  • Consistently, accurately and legibly record required information on the requisition.
  • Pull previous films, exams and reports; record required information on the film jacket; perform other file room duties as required.
  • Charge for procedures.
  • Perform other routine clerical duties as assigned.
  • Input and verify all data sent and verified in PACS/RIS.
  • Recognize emergent situations and respond appropriately; call codes as needed.
  • Observe and monitor patient vital signs.
  • Monitor medical equipment attached to the patient during procedure.
Qualifications
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) – American Heart Association.
  • ARMRIT (American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists) registry or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – R&MR) registry or registry eligible.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging Certification within 2 years of hire.
