Description

1. Assumes charge of the Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV) bus and passengers while the bus is in route, ensuring the safety and conduct of those transported. Responsible for transporting only authorized students and adult sponsors, obeying all traffic laws and district policies.
2. Operates according to assigned schedules and routes, transporting passengers to and from school, various school sites, and on field trips as assigned. Maintains communication with dispatcher or supervisor for daily assignments, covers routes and other runs as directed.
3. Provides notification of delays in scheduled routes.
4. Assists and instructs passengers in proper loading and unloading procedures.
5. Ensures students are seated with seat belts at all times, conducts a sweep of the bus to ensure no passengers are left unattended, and confirms children take their belongings when leaving the bus.
6. Documents and reports discipline problems to the transportation supervisor.
7. Maintains a clean bus externally and internally, ensures adequate fuel levels, conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and reports maintenance issues via the Samsara system.
8. Creates neat, legible, and accurate transportation records as required.
9. Assists during bus breakdowns or accidents and reports all incidents according to established protocols.
10. Attends all required training, safety, and in-service meetings. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to procedural changes.
11. Maintains positive relationships with parents and school staff, and upholds disciplined decorum on the bus to ensure passenger safety and property protection.
12. Follows Dallas ISD Employee Standards of Conduct, exercises good judgment, collaborates effectively, and follows the organizational chain of command. Acts as a positive role model supporting Dallas ISD's goals.
13. Reports to work punctually, is reliable for scheduled and overtime work, and only absents with valid reasons.
14. Performs additional tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., G.E.D.) preferred.
• Maintains a minimum of a Class “C” driver’s license issued by the State of Texas.
• Satisfactorily passes Dallas ISD driver certification for MPV drivers.
• Able to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests, and an annual physical exam.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Possesses a driving record that meets the District's standards for motor vehicle operation.
• Works effectively with others.
• Is punctual and reliable.
• Capable of understanding directions and feedback.
• Can manage multiple tasks while prioritizing passenger safety.
• Communicates effectively in speaking, reading, and writing; bilingual skills are preferred.
