Description
- Assumes charge of the Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV) bus and passengers while the bus is in route, and is responsible for the safety and conduct of those transported. Transports only authorized students and adult sponsors, obeys all traffic laws and district policies.
- Operates according to assigned schedules and routes, transporting passengers to and from school, various school sites, and on field trips as assigned. Reports to dispatcher or supervisor for daily assignments and covers routes or runs as directed.
- Provides notification of delays in scheduled routes.
- Assists and instructs passengers in proper loading and unloading procedures.
- Ensures students are seated with seat belts at all times, conducts a sweep of the bus to ensure no passengers are left unattended, and ensures children take their belongings when leaving the bus.
- Documents and reports discipline problems to the transportation supervisor.
- Maintains a clean bus externally and internally, keeps an appropriate level of fuel, conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and reports maintenance issues via the Samsara system.
- Creates neat, legible, and accurate transportation records as required.
- Assists when the bus breaks down or is involved in an accident, and reports all accidents per established protocols.
- Attends all required training, safety meetings, and in-service sessions. Demonstrates adaptability to procedural changes.
- Maintains positive relationships with parents and school staff, and upholds disciplined decorum on the bus to ensure passenger safety and property protection.
- Follows Dallas ISD Employee Standards of Conduct, exercises good judgment, collaborates effectively, and follows organizational policies. Acts as a positive role model supporting Dallas ISD's goals.
- Reports to work punctually, is reliable for regular and overtime work, and only absents with valid reasons.
- Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., G.E.D.) preferred.
- Maintains a minimum of a Class “C” driver’s license issued by the State of Texas.
- Satisfactorily passes Dallas ISD driver certification for MPV drivers.
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exams.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Meets the district's driving record standards for motor vehicle operations.
- Works effectively with others.
- Is punctual and reliable.
- Can understand and follow directions and feedback well.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks while prioritizing passenger safety.
- Communicates effectively in speaking, reading, and writing; bilingual skills are preferred.
