Job summary

McWane Plant & Industrial in Connecticut is seeking an experienced Welder I for the 2nd shift (2:00 PM – 12:30 AM) to layout and weld parts per templates and layout specifications. The Welder I will ensure welds conform to company and government standards.

Qualified candidates will have at least 1 year welding experience and a High School Diploma or GED. You must be able to weld in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions, and follow all safety rules while using PPE and a variety of

  • Ability to weld in multiple positions (Flat, Horizontal, Vertical and Overhead).

  • Assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wear PPE including steel‑toe boots, safety glasses and hearing protection.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Follow McWane Plant & Industrial management procedures.
  • Weld in multiple positions (Flat, Horizontal, Vertical and Overhead).
  • Weld ductile iron and steel pipe and collars.
  • Comply with safety rules and practices.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely and proficiently.

Welder I (2nd Shift 2:00PM- 12:30AM)

Pay

Starting rate: $26.08/hr.

24-month wage progression

Description

McWane Plant & Industrial is seeking an experienced Welder to join our Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. The Welder I position will be required to layout and weld together parts using manual welding processes according to templates and layout specifications. The Welder I position is responsible for ensuring that welds conform to all company and government standards.

Scope of Responsibilities
  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.
  • Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area as well as maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles.Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Mcwane Plant & Industrial Management Program. Advise management of any deviations from this program.
  • Weld in multiple positions (Flat, Horizontal, Vertical and Overhead positions)
  • Identify and perform appropriate weld per specifications.
  • Will weld ductile iron and steel pipe and collars.
  • Must always follow all safety rules and practices.
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to pneumatic and electric tools, measuring devices, calipers, tape measures, grinders, jacks, welders, cutting torches, Sander, Drill, Chop saw, and cranes safely and proficiently.
Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.The employee is required to communicate both verbally and written in English.Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Must be able to meet and adhere physical requirements as well as adhere to wearing the appropriate PPE (steel toed boots, safety glasses and hearing protection)Must be able to work in dust and fumes.Will be required to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus and determine and distinguish color.Must have the ability to operate a forklift and obtain certification.

Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum one (1) year of welding experience.
