Job summary

The University of North Texas is seeking an MPAC Stage Technician to support performances at the Murchison Performing Arts Center, assisting both UNT College of Music concerts and external rental events.

Under the supervision of the MPAC Director and Audio Technical Director, this part-time role requires 2–3 years in theater production and an associate’s degree or higher in a related field, with hands-on duties from load-in to live sound and lighting operations.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience in general theater production including audio, lighting, scenic, and props.
• Strong ability to read production reports and follow stage directions.
• Must be able to lift and move equipment and work in physically active settings.

Responsibilities

• Read pre-event reports and set stages to match charts.
• Move equipment on/off stage including microphones, chairs, stands, platforms, risers, and pianos.
• Assist in setup of audio and lighting and arrange lobby tables and chairs for events.
• Run audio or assist with audio for events with multiple microphones.

Job description

MPAC Stage Technician

This position works under the supervision of the MPAC Director and MPAC Audio Technical Director as a general stage technician for performances in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, supporting both UNT College of Music concerts and external rental client events.

Minimum Qualifications

2‑3 years of experience with general theater production—including audio, lighting, scenic, and props—and an associate’s degree or higher in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must learn quickly, retain system information, and possess critical listening and visual acuity for audio and lighting. Capable of reading production reports, executing tasks as assigned, interacting professionally with all clients, and understanding stage terminology and directions. The position requires hands‑on work, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and stair or ladder climbing as needed.

Job Duties

• Reading pre‑event reports and setting stages to match charts.
• Moving equipment on/off stage such as microphones, chairs, stands, platforms, choir risers, and pianos.
• Assisting in setup of audio and lighting, as well as arranging tables and chairs for lobby receptions, meetings, and similar events.
• Running audio or assisting with audio for events with multiple microphones, such as concerts or meetings.

Physical Requirements

• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
• Operating in tight and confined spaces.
• Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
• Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
• Performing repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, or fingers.

Work Schedule

The work will be intermittent, year‑round, scheduled at least 2–4 weeks in advance, part‑time, and no more than 15 hours per week. Several weeks a year will have no hours when UNT is closed for Winter, Spring, or Fall breaks.
