Job summary

Southern Landscape Group in Central Virginia seeks a Mowing Team Technician to support the Team Leader in mowing operations and basic horticultural work across residential and commercial properties.

This role operates a variety of equipment, performs edging, blowing, bed maintenance, pruning, and minor irrigation, with seasonal duties including leaf and snow removal. A high school diploma and strong teamwork are required.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing job notes for understanding scope of work.
• Read and interpret service maps.
• Operate a variety of lawn care equipment.
• Mow using push, stand-on, and zero-turn mowers with pattern variation.
• Edge and trim turf and hardscape interfaces.
• Blow leaves and debris from hard surfaces.
• Perform landscape bed maintenance and pruning.
• Identify basic plant health issues and perform minor irrigation repairs.
• Seasonal tasks: spring clean‑ups, leaf removal, and snow removal.
• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION OVERVIEW

A Mowing Team Technician is a team member working under the direction of the Team Leader. The primary function of a Mowing Team Technician is to assist the Team Leader in mowing operations. The Mowing Technician is able to operate a variety of equipment and has basic horticultural knowledge.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Reviewing job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on daily basis
2. Read and interpret aerial service maps
3. Working knowledge and understanding of pesticides used
4. Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques
5. Performing the following landscape services:
   • Mowing: use push, walk behind, and stand on mowers to cut turf using alternating mowing patterns
   • Edging: use stick edger to hard edge turf against hardscape surfaces; use string trimmer to soft edge around softscape edges and trim unreachable turf areas by mower
   • Blowing: using handheld or backpack blower to blow off all hard surfaces
   • Landscape bed maintenance: spray and pull weeds
   • Pruning: horticulturally correct tree/shrub/perennial pruning
   • Plant health: identify basic plant health issues regarding diseases and insects
   • Irrigation: minor irrigation repairs
   • Floral services: care and maintenance
   • Spring clean-ups: bed cleanout, bed edging, pre-emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation
   • Leaf removal: use of Ventrac, backpack blowers, stand-on zero turns with baggers, and truck mounted leaf vac to conduct seasonal leaf removals
   • Snow removal
   • Any other tasks necessary.
6. Operates small and medium duty tools and equipment to include but not limited to: push mower, zero turn mower, walk behind mower, leaf vac, Ventrac, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re-definers, rototiller, string trimmer, stick edger, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader
7. Identifies enhancement ideas to improve client property and submits to team leader.
8. Learns and has a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities and knows limits of work.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Time will be spent in an outdoor environment with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.

The team member is expected to work the assigned hours at Southern Landscape Group from Monday through Friday as well as weekends & overtime as dictated by seasonal needs. This is an hourly wage position with a normally expected workday of 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

CERTIFICATIONS

• Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record
• VDACS Registered Tech Certification (within 1 year of hire)
• CPR/First Aid Certification (within 1 year of hire)
